As the evenings are getting shorter, the leaves are falling from the trees and the warm glow of Christmas is nearly upon us. The team at Love Drogheda Business Improvement District have been busy getting ready to launch their Love Drogheda Gift Card in early November with businesses signing up on a daily basis. Over 70 businesses are already confirmed as accepting the card and many more are in the process of registering. As a prepaid Mastercard, the Love Drogheda Gift Card can be spent with a variety of local businesses in the area, encouraging local shopping and keeping money in the Drogheda area.
Drogheda BID identified the gift card project as having the most potential impact for businesses affected by pandemic related restrictions. The Love Drogheda Gift Card will be provided by Miconex through its Town and City Gift Cards programme.
“Every half a million euros spent through the programme in Drogheda could support and sustain a minimum of 15 -20 full time jobs in the town,” said Trevor Connolly, chief executive officer at Drogheda BID. Key to the strategic introduction of the programme is corporate sales:
“In a gift card programme, there is the potential for 80-90% of sales to come through corporate gift giving. In Ireland, we benefit from the Small Benefit Exemption scheme whereby you can give employees up to €500 tax free each year. If businesses are in a position to reward staff with a bonus this year we are asking that they consider supporting the Love Drogheda Gift card ahead of other multi national cards. The Love Drogheda Card is commission free and thus all money spent in store stays with that business and helps support our local economy”.
“It’s a particularly significant time for customers to think twice about how and where they are spending their hard earned money. There is an increased awareness of the importance of supporting local businesses, and the Drogheda Gift Card will harness this sense of pride and support of all things Drogheda to assist the recovery from the recent crisis and to a prosperous future.
Presently the Gift Card is accepted in a large variety of businesses from leisure clubs to coffee shops and everywhere in between.
